Privacy Policy — Binky

Binky is an Android app for keeping track of a pet rabbit’s health. This policy describes what the app does with the information you put into it. It is short because the app does very little.

The app collects nothing

Binky has no account, no sign-in, and no server. Nothing you enter is transmitted anywhere.

Everything you record — your rabbits’ profiles and photos, weights, observations, symptoms, vet visits, medications, scanned documents and reminders — is stored only in the app’s private storage on your own device, and is readable only by the app.

The app shares nothing

No analytics. No advertising. No crash-reporting SDK. No third-party trackers of any kind. The app’s own code makes no network requests at all, and nothing you record is ever sent anywhere.

Three things happen outside the app that are worth naming, because they are the operating system’s or Google’s doing rather than ours:

• Android Auto Backup. If you have backup enabled on your device with a Google account signed in, Android may back up the app’s data to your own Google account, encrypted, in the same way it does for other apps. That is a service between you and Google; we neither see nor receive it. It can be switched off in your device’s system settings. Your photo gallery in the app is deliberately excluded from it.
• Google Play. If you installed the app from Google Play, Play collects its own installation and crash-diagnostic information under Google’s privacy policy. This is collected by the Play Store and the operating system, not by the app.
• The document scanner. Scanning a document uses Google’s on-device scanner, which is part of Google Play services. Because that component is bundled with the app, the app’s installation listing shows a network permission that Google’s component brings with it. The scanner does not receive any of your records — not a rabbit’s name, weight, dose, observation or note. It is handed the camera and gives back the picture, which is then stored on your device like any other. Google may collect its own diagnostics about that component under Google’s privacy policy. On a device without Play services the app quietly uses the plain camera instead, and scanning still works.

What you choose to send

The app can export a backup file and share it through your device’s share sheet, and can attach scanned documents and photos you take. Where any of that goes is entirely your choice, at the moment you make it. Nothing is sent automatically.

The Support screen is the third of these, and the only one addressed to us. Tapping Report a bug or Request a feature opens a new message in your own mail app, addressed to binky.support@gmail.com — an ordinary mailbox that a person reads. A bug report also has a few technical facts written into the message before you see it: the app’s version and build number, your Android version, your phone’s model, and the language the app is set to. Nothing about your rabbits — no name, weight, observation, dose, document or photo. The app itself sends nothing: what it hands your mail app is a draft, which you can read, edit or delete, and it goes nowhere until you tap send. The screen says all of this before the button is tapped.

Permissions

The app asks for one thing: permission to show notifications, so reminders can reach you. You can say no and the rest of the app works.

Taking a photo uses the system camera, choosing photos uses Android’s Photo Picker, and scanning a document uses the system camera too — none of these requires granting the app access to your camera or your photo library.

Children

The app is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone.

Deleting your data

Uninstalling the app removes all of its data from your device. You can also clear it from your device’s app settings, or delete individual records inside the app at any time. Because we never receive your records, there is nothing of your rabbits’ history for us to delete on your behalf and no request you need to send us.

The one exception is a message you chose to send us. If you have written to binky.support@gmail.com, we hold that message — your email address and whatever the message contained, including the technical facts described above — in an ordinary mailbox. Write to the same address and we will delete the correspondence.

Health information

Binky is a record-keeping tool for your own observations of an animal. It does not provide veterinary or medical advice, and nothing it shows should be treated as a diagnosis.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this address with a new date at the top.
